THE LOS ANGELES BANKRUPTCY FORUM
Ninth Annual Joseph Bernfeld Distinguished Speakers Program
February 27, 2012
Western Pioneers in Bankruptcy Practice
Each year the LABF honors one of its founders at the Annual Joseph P. Bernfeld Distinguished Speakers Program. On February 27, the LABF will take a broad look at California's rich heritage of esteemed bankruptcy firms and practitioners through the eyes and ears of this year's distinguished speaker, Hon. Randall J. Newsome (Ret.).
Starting in the early 1990s, Judge Newsome has used his position as both scholar and historian of bankruptcy law to interview a number of important bankruptcy figures, including many of Joe Bernfeld's contemporaries who founded some of the leading firms, and laid the groundwork for the modern bankruptcy practice, in Los Angeles. Among those interviewed were Barney Shapiro, George Treister, and Ben Danning, to name just a few. The Randall J. Newsome Oral History Collection includes audio cassette tapes of interviews with these and other important figures in bankruptcy law. Judge Newsome will share excerpts from these oral histories.
